The “ONE OK ROCK 35XXXV Manila Concert” United Filipino Jrock Fans

I’ve been listening to this band for a while, and when their songs were featured in the Rurouni Kenshin live-action trilogy, I knew they were gonna be big. Aaaaaaaannddd I was right, fast forward a few years, now they’re touring around the world.

Last year, they announced they were having an Asian tour on early 2016 and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! It’s about time a Japanese band comes to perform in the Philippines! I was pleasantly shocked when I found out Philippines was included. ‘Cause at first, I believed only a few people would be listening to jrock/jpop (Japanese rock/Japanese pop) music (and they are most probably animé fans too). Yes, the Rurouni Kenshin movies were a hit in my country, but chances are no one would be curious enough to check out the band, or so I thought.

So last Jan. 19, ONE OK ROCK made history and had their first-ever concert in the Pearl of The Orient. Taka, Toru, Ryota and Tomoya performed their hits and the Filipinos, to my surprise, sang along to all of their songs, and those include the lyrics in Japanese! I noticed that they altered some of the Japanese lyrics to English but it turned out that the fans knew the Japanese version better. Most Filipinos don’t even speak Japanese, unless you count “arigatou” or “konnichiwa” as “speaking Japanese”. LOL. But apparently, the Filipinos were well-versed in their songs.

My friends and I were situated at the back of the VIP standing section so for the most part we could barely see them, but who cares. HAHAHA. We were having tons of fun headbanging and jumping to the energetic music. The euphoria is definitely on a whole other level when you’re listening to it live as compared to just when you’re playing music from your ipod. And can I just say, Taka’s voice, as well as the energy of the whole band, didn’t waver one bit throughout the whole concert!! They most certainly didn’t disappoint the crowd and gave an awesome show! Fortunately, I somehow managed to get some “decent” shots!

Mayer Made My Day… Again!

Three days ago, John Mayer tweeted about his return to the studio again this coming January. (Woohoo!!)

And for someone like me who loved his Continuum album the most out of all his other (stellar) albums, I am more than excited for this! Hopefully he’ll have a collaboration with Pino and Steve (from John Mayer Trio) again.

But before he goes back to the studio, he’ll be on a winter tour with Grateful Dead as Dead & Company! Tour dates can be viewed on their official website.

My Heart is Breaking Again; Urbandub Decides To Disband

Just when I thought I’m already depressed enough when Kamikazee announced their split, another rock group again is about to part ways, and their last gig is scheduled this coming May 9th.

Here is just one of the many badass songs the band has released in the past 15 years as a rock group:

Now, please excuse me while I drown myself in Urbandub songs… (T___T)

It’s One Foreign Act After Another in the Philippines

2015 would not definitely not fall short of international music acts coming to the Philippines.

Here’s a couple of international artists who’ll be performing:

1. Michael Bublé

The multi-awarded Jazz artist will be performing in Manila this January 31st!! 🙂 I wanted to go but it’s too expensive… T___T
Don’t worry Michael, I’ll get rich first and then I’ll watch your concert… hopefully… someday…. (>.<)

2. The Vamps

The Vamps will be performing for the first time in Manila this year.

Surely, many teenage fangirls are soooo excited this February.

3. T-PAIN

WHAAAAATTT??! Even T-Pain is coming over?!  I’m not sure if this is his first time, but Philippines is getting tons of international artists doing concerts over here, I couldn’t keep up with all of it. :O

4. Boyce Avenue

Okay, I know them because they’re very popular in Youtube and do a lot cover songs, but I happen to have a copy of their first original album 😉 They’ll be spending Valentine’s Day here in Manila and on the next day they’ll be in Davao City for another performance.

5. Ed Sheeran

Oh yeaaaa. My favorite ginger will finally have a concert in Manila!! If you’ve seen my previous post, I mentioned that this dude’s concert tickets were sold it in less than a day (more like 2 or 3 hours to be exact)! He’s included in my artist bucket list… and now, I’ll be seeing him in a few months!! 🙂

Why have I not heard of the Farro brothers until now?!

Recently, one of the Farro brothers, Josh, released their first music video under the band name, “Farro” (guess they ran out of band names.. lol). I wondered what kind of sound it would be knowing the two brothers who left Paramore both did punk rock. Well I was half-expecting that it would somehow be rockish.

But thank goodness it was not as I expected. Farro’s music style is not even close to what Josh Farro had done with Paramore, and to hear him singing in this track is another bonus. I’ve learned that Josh is not particularly fond of singing, but I personally think that he could use this hidden talent a bit more. He has a lot of room for improvement in the vocal department based on his latest single with Farro, but other than that, his singing ability was better than I imagined. Check out their music video below:

What’s even more surprising to me is Zac’s band, HalfNoise. And he’s the VOCALIST. . OMG. They released some videos a couple of months before, but it wasn’t until a while ago that I saw it. Upon hearing it, Coldplay instantly came into my mind. It definitely screams INDIE.

I just love how they all look so passionate in this video.

While I’m very sad that they’re no longer with Paramore, at least now they get to express their artistry in their own ways.
